Ohio Hunters Education Course

Cost: FREE

Short Description: Teaches topics that concentrate on conservation, firearms knowledge, safety, ethics and responsibilities. Satisfies first time hunting license buyer requirements. Also meets non-resident license requirements for other states.

More Details: Instructor-led courses last about twelve hours and take place in a classroom environment. If you've completed the home-study work found on the ODNR website, you will need to attend a final in-person instruction session. Bring your completed review quizzes to the class. The session will last 4 to 6 hours. After the in-person training on firearms, ammunition, gun handling, and other safety issues, you will then be given the final hunter certification test. Once you've completed the course work, you'll be given a 100-question test which includes a mix of multiple choice, matching, and true/false questions. A student must score 80% or higher on the test to pass and obtain certification. Students will receive an Ohio Hunter Education Manual. After successful completion of the course a Division of Wildlife Hunter Education Course Official Certification Card will be issued. This card will meet the requirements for first time hunters. It also meets non-resident requirements for adults who may already have a resident Ohio hunting license, but would like to hunt out of state. Almost all states require an actual Hunters Education card to purchase a non-resident license. Before booking a big game hunt out West, or heading South for a late season waterfowl hunt, make sure you have your Hunters Education card!
